Several months ago Gia's cousin, Kelly, and I were talking about Gia's 40th birthday and possibly surprising her. Kelly was going to be there visiting and she came up with the idea of just a few of Gia's closest friends coming in to surprise her on Saturday night. So, the planning started and Kelly, Stacy, Sherry, Missy, Brandi and I text messaged back and forth with all the details. Missy, Brandy, Stacy and I were all coming in from out of town so we were all very excited to see Gia and surprise her.
I flew out of Huntsville into Wilmington on Friday afternoon. Stacy picked me up from the airport and we went shopping and then to our hotel. That night we went out to dinner and to see the movie Fifty Shades of Grey.
The next day we went out to lunch and a little more shopping and got ready to drive to Jacksonville. We were meeting Missy at Sherry and Pete's house on Lejeune. Pete cooked a delicious jambalaya dinner for us and then we drove to Swansboro where Gia, Jason, Kelly and Brandi were having dinner at the Icehouse. We went and had a drink at Church Street Irish Pub until it was time for us to go to the Icehouse. The plan was for us to all be waiting right outside the door with these little animal masks on so that when she walked outside, she would see us all there. It was great!
We were just sitting on the bench holding up our masks when they walked out. Kelly had finally clued Jason in so he knew we were all there to surprise her. She walked out and saw us and had the strangest look on her face. We found out later that she thought "who are all these idiots sitting here and why are they holding up animal masks?!?" She finally realized who we were and she was so confused about what was happening that she almost had a panic attack! Her reaction was priceless!
After the surprise we all went back to Gia and Jason's for them to get their bags and to give Gia her birthday presents and then we loaded up in Stacy's van and headed to Wilmington for the night! Everyone checked into the hotel and we dropped off the cars and then we hit Front Street and went from place to place. We danced until the wee hours of the morning and had a blast celebrating Gia's birthday!
