Saying Goodbye to the O'Day's

Tonight we had to say goodbye to more dear friends, our neighbors the O'Day's - Annette, Rob, Olivia and Ellis.  They leave tomorrow heading to VA so we went for one last dinner at Smedley's before they moved.  We have shared many dinners together at Smedley's,  especially when the husbands were deployed, so it was only fitting that we went there tonight.  The service was even more horrible and slower than usual so it might just have been our last dinner there...period.  We'll see.  Anyway, we will definitely miss the O'Day's.  They were great neighbors and Annette was an even better friend.

H&HS Change of Command

Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron's Change of Command was today at MCAS New River.  Dave was the Commander of Troops so I brought Grace and Zachary with me so that they could see the ceremony.  Dave had told them they would see a parade so Zachary had in his mind a parade with floats and bands and that sort of thing.  He kept whispering and asking me when the parade was going to start and I kept telling him, "this is the parade".  It wasn't quite what he had in mind.
It was a scorcher of a day!  I was drenched with sweat by the time it was over and held an ice cold water bottle to the back of my neck pretty much during the entire ceremony.  Here are Grace and Zachary trying to cool off before it even started.  Thank goodness there was a breeze!

Big Fear, Big Excitement, Big Day

Today was a big day for the kids.  This morning they started the Summer Enrichment program that the base schools offer and they were so nervous!  I kept telling them that I was sure they would know or recognize someone once they got there and that they were going to have so much fun!  Needless to say, they didn't really believe me and were so nervous and apprehensive that they made me nervous!  Once we got there, we immediately saw the Battavio's so there was a familiar face for both of them.  Unfortunately Grace and Mackenzie were not in the same class but Zachary and Brendon were.  Once we went in, we found their teachers and they were both so nice!  Grace has Ms. Pina and Zachary has Ms. Amos and they are going to be learning all about the Arts - music, dance and theater.  The classes are divided into K-1-2 and 3-4-5.  I stayed there with them for a little while during the opening program to make sure they were okay and then when they went to their classes, I left.   The program is from 9-12 and I  made sure I was there before noon.  When they came out, they were so excited and they both wanted to tell me how awesome it was and how much fun they had!  I loved it!  I was so happy that they enjoyed it and can't wait to go back tomorrow.

Not only was it their first day of Summer Enrichment, but it was also their first day of private swim lessons.  They each had a private 1/2 hour lesson and they did great!  They both loved the swim teacher and even though they were freezing and their teeth were chattering, they did everything Miss Dawn told them to do.  After it was all over, Miss Dawn said that she was so proud of Zachary and that by the end of his lesson, he was swimming by himself a little.  Grace needs to work on her strokes and her breathing but Miss Dawn said that her backstroke was amazing and that Grace needs to be on the swim team that she coaches with that amazing backstroke.

I Won! I WON! I WON!

I am soooo excited!  I was just catching up on some blogs before I start cooking dinner and I saw that Erin at The Vintage Pearl had a new post.  I clicked on it and she was announcing the winners that were randomly picked for a $50 gift certificate and my name was one of them!  When I first saw it, I doubted it was me so I clicked on the name and there was my profile!  All I did was leave a comment on her blog about what I was getting my Dad and husband for Father's Day.  I didn't blog it, facebook it or tweet it - just left that one little comment and I won!  I'm so excited.  I love to win things but I especially love to win good things!  And this is good!  Now....what will I get??????

The 3 randomly picked winners of a $50 gift cert for Dad (or you!) are JillTiffany, andSarahBeth!

Father's Day...Relaxing...Boating with Friends

First of all, let me start off by saying Happy Father's Day to my husband, Dave, to my Daddy and to my Father-in-law.  My Daddy has always been such a good Daddy and I will always be his little girl.  He has always been there for me when I needed him, whether it was just to talk to, laugh with, confide in, cry on his shoulder or drive 12 hours to pick me up and turn right around and drive 12 more (which he has done more than once).  Whatever it is, I KNOW that I can rely on my Daddy to be there for me.  Thank you Daddy for being you, for being my friend and for being the wonderful Father that you have always been to me.

And now for Dave...Happy Father's Day sweetie!  You are such an amazing Daddy to Grace and Zachary.  I know sometimes they think you are the "meanie" but we all know how much  you love them and that you love them with all your heart and you ONLY want the very best for them.  You are loving, giving, caring, protective, tickler, fireman carrier, playmate, wrestler, teacher, provider, encourager and story reader.  You are EVERYTHING to both the kids and myself.  We all love you very much and hope you had a wonderful Father's Day.

Now, you may be wondering how we spent our Father's Day, so let me tell you.
After opening up his present which was a USA soccer jersey, we brought Dave coffee in bed and then Grace and I cooked breakfast for him.  The rest of today was spent with some good friends of ours, Kim and Brett Giordano, who invited us to come out with them on their boat.  They picked us up at noon down at the O' Club dock and we headed out.  It was a scorcher of a day but the breeze we felt in the boat was wonderful!  We headed out towards Sneads Ferry to a little sandbar and dropped anchor there.  The kids all splashed and played and dug for clams and we found a whole bucket full of clams!  Kim and I also spent a little time digging for clams when we weren't relaxing.  Dave even had a nice little nap while we were out there and Zachary had one on the way back in.  We all got a little pinker than I would have liked but it was a fantastic day!  Thanks so much Kim and Brett for inviting us out with you.  We had a blast!

Zachary said at one point, "All the grown up boys did was sit in the water and drink beer all afternoon." It was pretty funny the way it said it.
