Follow Up on Zachary

We had Zachary's follow up with the ENT on Tuesday and the fluid in his ears has actually gotten worse. That didn't surprise me because I thought his hearing was worse. So, the doctor wants to put in tubes and we have surgery scheduled for March 25th. I'm actually looking forward to it and hope that it clears everything up and that he will be able to hear clearly again.

I also got the report back from the speech therapist and she has diagnosed him with a
severe articulation disorder in connected speech. She listed bilateral hearing loss as one of the factors that affect communication and that functional impairments related to these factors are
1. Difficulty hearing, and 2. Speech is often unintelligible. She is recommending:

1. Private speech and language therapy 2 times per week for 30 minutes.
2. Finish administering the CELF-PS2 once therapy has begun. Additional goals may follow.
3. Administer an Oral Mechanism Exam and a Diadochokinetic Assessment once therapy has begun.
4. Begin home program to assist in carryover of goals.

We have our first speech therapy appointment in the morning at 8:00 a.m.
