Zachary had his appointment with the ENT this morning. After waiting for about an hour and a half, we finally got called back. We met with both the doctor and an audiologist to have his hearing checked. He does still have fluid in both ears and his hearing is being affected by the fluid. One ear is worse than the other. His ear drums are not moving at all because of the fluid and that is what is causing the hearing loss. The good news is that when she bypassed his ear drum and the fluid to check the nerves, his hearing was fine, so once we get the fluid cleared up, he should be able to hear perfectly well again.
Since this was the first time this doctor had seen us, he wants to treat Zachary with medication first. We are to continue his Zyrtec and Singulair and he is also to use a nose spray and he placed him on another antibiotic. We follow up in 3 weeks, on February 23. The doctor thinks this should be enough time for him to tell whether or not the medicine is going to help. He said that if his ears still look the same in 3 weeks, then we will talk about putting tubes in.
